Exam Extra Credit#

You may earn up to five points (5/50) on your exam grade (not to exceed 100%) by submitting one of the following. For either option below, the submission should reflect concepts covered in that unit of the exam. Look over the course notes and find topics you feel less comfortable with. Use this exercise as an opportunity to gain a better understanding of those topics.

Submit extra credits by the last class of the semester.

(Option 1) Exam/Practice Questions#

Write up to five (5) exam/prep questions and provide their solutions. Questions can be of any type (except True/False). You will earn 1 ExCr pt for each question I deem ‘good’. What is good?

Bloom’s Taxonomy describes a heirarchy of thinking skills. In an exam, I try to ask questions that sample the different levels of the taxonomy.

In your questions, avoid the lowest level of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Look over the practice exam shared in Setting up and Resources: Review Materials. Even in multiple choice and matching, I try to test higher-order thinking skills.

(Option 2) Class Notes Example/Homework Problem#

Find a dataset and perform an analysis on it. Submit a jupyter notebook with a brief description of your data and the analysis.

  • The data MUST BE REAL and MAY NOT be from Kaggle or the UCI Machine Learning Repository. Provide a link to the data.

  • The analysis should focus on a tool or method you feel could use more explaining/examples in the notes. Ideally, you illustrate an aspect or application of an algorithm that wasn’t covered much (or at all) in the notes.

  • Start with a brief description of the data and a list of the modeling algorithm(s) used, then provide your code for analysis. Include any figures or assessments you feel are appropriate.

  • This does not have to be as in depth or polished as a mini-project.
